Reduction in the number of accidents at sea

The following figures concern insurance claims for third party liability, such as incidents involving personal injury, cargo damage, pollution, or damage to property (e.g. other ships or port equipment). The figures have been produced by the UK P&I Club, which insures around 20% of the world's ships, and take account of changes in the number of ships entered in the Club.

The decrease in the number of large claims (over US $100,000) is all the more significant given the increasing value of claims that are made.
